Hill Walking & Filming

20th July 2015

The last month has been very busy working for Mountain and Water Safety Specialists, providing mountain safety cover for a large production who were filming around Scotland.

That finished last week and we were straight into some hill work. On Thursday, Keith came out with us for a Summer Mountain Leader preperation day ahead of his assessment. Despite it being mid July, we managed to find conditions very similar to mid October to practice navigating in poor conditions, emergency rope work and river crossings in!

Over the weekend we were working for Stewart Mountain Skills and guided Fiona and friends up Bynack Mor and Braeriach. It was very windy on Saturday and questionable whether we'd make it up a mountain at all, but the team pressed on and the winds eased (slightly) just in time for our summit success. Yesterday the cloud felt like it was going to hang about 1100m's all day but it cleared on our way down from the summit of Braeriach, rewarding us with fantastic views across the 'Gorms.

More film safety work this week coming!

Intro to Rock Climbing

26th June 2015

Calum and Gayle were out with us for a couple of days rock climbing this week. Both were keen to become independent rock climbers and spent a day at Kingussie crag and at Pass of Ballater getting to grips with what it's all about. Despite the forecast not looking great, they managed to enjoy some dry rock!

Rock Climbing, Stac Pollaidh

13th June 2015

We spent a couple days this week climbing and chilling out in the North West. We climbed a V.Diff on the western buttress of Stac Pollaidh before traversing the pinnacle back to the path at the bealach. A great fun day out. We were rewarded with some stunning west coast sunsets as well.

It's still a busy time for Mountain and Water Safety Specialists with recent work on the TV series 'Outlander' as well as a big feature film which starts filming in Scotland in a couple of weeks time.

Charity Walk & Rock Climbing

8th June 2015

Summer is still taking its time to arrive here in the Highlands. On Saturday we had to change our route for the Archie Foundation sponsored hill walk. Plan 'A' had been to go up Lochnagar, but the high winds and sleet forecasted kept us lower on the mountain. Well done to the walkers who took part and for the money they raised.

Yesterday, Emily and her work colleagues/ friends joined us for an intro rock climbing at Kingussie. We dodged to showers and enjoyed climbing a number of routes. Note Arrans style: one walking boot, one climbing shoe and superman socks!

End of Adventure Holiday & Rock Climbing

1st June 2015

Rachel & Ron's Adventure Holiday finished with a day of Rock Climbing in Ballater, canyoning in the Bruar canyon with the G2 team and scrambling in Glen Coe on ZigZags with Mikey B. All in all an action packed holiday which hopefully showed off Scotland a little bit too. They certainly enjoyed themselves and it was a pleasure to share their holiday with them.

Today we were back at the Pass of Ballater with the 50+ team from Adventure Aberdeen. It was an Intro day and despite the really cold conditions, the team made the most of things and got lots of climbing done.

The film safety work for Mountain and Water Safety Specialists is also busy at the moment with some big TV and Film productions requiring our services.

Adventure Holiday

26th May 2015

This week is Ron & Rachels Adventure Holiday! They were out in the mountains yesterday enjoying the beautiful scenery and today were canoeing down the river Spey. Being Canadians, canoeing to them is like riding a bike, so Mark had his work cut out! Tomorrow we're off to Ballater rock climbing, hopefully in the sunshine....

Otherwise, it's been a very busy month with a canoe expedition in the North West Highlands for Beyond Adventure, a road cycling trip through the Outer Hebrides and film safety work for Mountain and Water Safety Specialists.

Rock Climbing & Navigation

5th May 2015

We enjoyed a days rock climbing at Duntelchaig with Sean on Friday. Sean (who's in his 70's and has only been climbing for a year) made light work of all the routes we climbed. Over the weekend, Gavin, Paul, Mark, Davey and Billy were on a nvigation course. On Saturday we covered the basics and went up Meall a' Buichaille, however the weather was wild on Sunday which forced us to eventually find shelter in the forest!

Yesterday we enjoyed climbing in the sunshine at Dunkeld.
