Winter Climbing

Scottish winter climbing is rich in mountaineering history and known throughout the world as a unique and unforgettable experience. Many of the great climbers and mountaineers have tested themselves on the ice climbs and mixed routes across the Highlands. Scottish winter climbing encompasses mountaineering skills in often challenging conditions. Navigation, avalanche awareness, rope management, proficient use of ice axe and crampons are all required as well as the ability to climb a route.

Our winter courses focus on the mountaineering and climbing skills required to undertake a winter route safely and independently. To get the most from out of them, summer mountaineering experience is important. Cairngorm Adventure Guides run introductory mountaineering and climbing courses, as well as avalanche training for climbers.

New for 2017 is our 'Classic Climbs Week' where we climb the best routes in the Highlands, going where the weather and conditions are best.

All Cairngorm Adventure Guides are appropriately qualified and experienced to keep you safe, coach skills and lead you safely in the mountains.
