Mixed early January conditions #winter #mountaineering #climbing #cairngorms

9th January 2017

The weather forecast is now looking wintry, which is great to see and a bit of a relief! We've had really wintry spells followed by warm weather which has stripped almost all the snow away. Nonethelss we've still managed to use good locations to deliver lots of great training. Here are some photos from winter skills, a winter walking week duo, two climbing teams, a winter mountaineering trio and some navigation training teams who've been out with us so far.

As always, these courses are only a success becuase of the skill and experience of the excellent mountain folks who work for Cairngorm Adventure Guides!

Winter courses

I booked onto this course looking to build on my spring to autumn hillwalking experiences and to provide me with some training to extend my hillwalking into the winter season. Those on the course were of mixed ability and experience and all were made to feel welcome. The guidance and instruction given was clear and concise and the experiences on the hills developed navigation, ice-axe and crampon skills. (some in really brutal weather)The avalanche awareness instruction was fascinating as were the tools (apps) that are available to support your expedition planning. Liam welcomed the course which was then delivered by Ian and Kevin who equipped us with their expertise and local knowledge. Time constraints meant I could only attend 3 out of the 5 days but I am already looking for an opportunity to return to the snowy Cairngorms.
