The seasons are definitely turning here in Aviemore and the Cairngorms. We've had a busy season of work, with a mix of rock climbing and hill walking groups as well as working on lots of TV and film productions. With so many missing out on winter last year it feels as though this winter is going to be pretty busy as most of our courses are already full and it's only the end of October. As always our winter skills courses are proving popular. These give you the skill set and confidence to get our winter hill walking: https://www.cairngormadventureguides.co.uk/winter-courses/winter-skills Hopefully we'll have some great skiing like last season. Our intro backcountry ski touring courses are ideal for anyone looking to get into ski touring: https://www.cairngormadventureguides.co.uk/winter-courses/intro-to-ski-mountaineering Hopefully we'll see you on one of our courses or out in the hills. Winter courses

The course was a great introduction to winter walking in Scotland. We were a group of 6 plus Liam our guide. On the first day we spent a few hours in the youth hostel covering theory, kit and issues such as avalanche risk before heading towards Cairgorm to practice arrests, navigation and techniques for walking in snow with and without crampons. The second day was a mountain journey which took us to the summit of Cairngorm practicing our winter skills en route and in an area of more plentiful snow to the south of the mountain. The course was very well organised and enjoyable. Liam was the ideal guide - friendly, knowledgable and unflappable.
